India will start rolling out self-service pharmacy service from December 1, 2018.
The government said in a notification issued on Thursday that the new service will be launched by Walgreens, which was the first private company to roll out the service in India.
It said Walgops plans to provide the service at its stores, and will operate them from the end of December 2018.
The announcement comes after the government launched a pilot scheme last month for the self-employed to pay taxes through debit cards, saying it was aimed at ensuring the right to income tax, and to protect the livelihoods of people.
The self-employment sector is estimated to have nearly 20 crore people in India, with about half of them making their livelihoods in the manufacturing and service sectors.
The country is facing the worst cash crunch in the world, with the government having spent nearly USD 2 trillion ($3.8 trillion) in the first six months of 2018.
